Qualitative Modelling

چکیده

Traditional, quantitative simulation based on quantitative models aims at producing precise numerical results as answers to user’s questions about the problem domain. Such precise numerical answers are often overly elaborate, and they contain much more information than it is actually needed. In every day life, humans use common sense to reason about problems qualitatively, without numbers. In the area of Artificial Intelligence, methods exist for qualitative modelling and simulation. In this paper, we review some ideas of qualitative reasoning and modelling. We also discuss qualitative data mining as an approach to the analysis of numerical data, and Q2 learning which combines qualitative and quantitative approaches to modelling from data.

Modelling and Ranking the Antecedents of Brand Hate among Customers of Home Appliance

The main purposes of this study are identification, modeling and ranking of factors influencing the brand hate.  To do this, mixed approaches of qualitative and quantitative have used. In the qualitative approach, the grounded theory method has considered. Hence, the opinions of 18 sale managers in the field of home appliance, as experts, collected and analyzed. The results of analyzing in 3 st...

Qualitative, semiqualitative and interval algebras, and their application to engineering problems

This paper proposes the use of semiqualitative modelling for reasoning about the behaviour of complex physical systems. Semiqualitative modelling is a generalisation of qualitative modelling which refines the set of intervals that values may be expressed in. Semiqualitative algebras are introduced, their most important features discussed, and related to qualitative algebras. The advantages that...

Developing Ontological Theories for Conceptual Models using Qualitative Research

Conceptual modelling is believed to be at the core of the IS discipline. There have been attempts to develop theoretical foundations for conceptual models, in particular ontological models as axiomatic reference systems. Although the notion of ontology has become popular in modelling theories, criticism has risen as to its philosophical presuppositions. Taking on this criticism, we discuss the ...

Qualitative methods in control of industrial production units

The research in this paper deals with the application of qualitative models and statistical methods in quality control of production procedures of various components of industrial press machines. The qualitative simulation of discrete-event machine systems is often based upon the use of qualitative simulation and discrete-event methods techniques too. In order to describe and analyze machine sy...

Agent-based modelling – A methodology for the analysis of qualitative development processes

The tremendous development of an easy access to computational power within the last 30 years has led to the widespread use of numerical approaches in almost all scientific disciplines. The first generation of simulation models was rather focused on stylized empirical phenomena. With agentbased modelling, however, the trade-off between simplicity in modelling and taking into account the complexi...
